I’ve been getting some questions about what tools and software VAs might need to invest in if they want to specialize in doing video work for clients. So I created the video below to give you a brief tour of my office and the items I have purchased over the last year. I show you my headset, microphone, external hard drive, webcam, pocket video recorder, and a couple of software tools. Plus you get to see my funky artwork in the background.
Do you need ALL this stuff. Heck no, but now that I am making some good money I’m having a lot of fun reinvesting in my business. I just bought two new desktop computers last month that run super fast because I HATE waiting a long time for videos to render.
If you are interested in adding video marketing to your VA business, this Wednesday, June 23rd, from 12-6 EST I am teaching a Video skills Workshop showing you how to market your own service business using video with all free tools. To check out what I am teaching there go to http://www.vaclassroom.com/video-clinic

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the informative video about tools and software. I noticed you didn’t mention anything about lighting … Do we need to have special lights for our videos, or will ordinary desk lamps suffice?

Lois,
Good question and you are right. I didn’t mention lighting. The room I work in happens to have fabulous natural light coming from a window in front of my computer. When I create videos I always look for a spot in my house where the natural light streams in agains my face. If you don’t have any place like that or you have a webcam on a desktop computer that is in a room without light in front of you, you can grab a couple of halogen work lights from Walmart plus a couple of clamps from Home Depot and clamp them to something in front of you point to each side of your face. That ought to make you nice and bright!

Nice video Michelle, thanks for the great info! I use the same software and headset, just different external HD and PC. And you are WAY too cute! Lots of personality in that video, thanks again, Bert

Hi Michelle,
Are you still using and or recommending the Sony Vegas software for video/ movie editing?

Yes Kim, Sony Vegas is great for video editing, but to record your computer screen you will still need to buy Camtasia Studio.
