I just tried a similar situation but used a cable that plugs into the mic jack and the other end plugs into the speaker jack. This eliminates having to place the microphone close to your speakers and not having to worry about other noise being picked up by the mic.

The only problem I had was using the Real Player video player (not the controls) but showing some boxes that showed up whenever you wanted to play or pause it. I also tried VLC but other things were visible also. Are there any video players that does not have other items visible when playing/pausing it?
